Introduced in 2023, the Daniel Weller is an experimental series delving into the influence of various wheat strains on its esteemed bourbons. This collection draws inspiration from and is named after Daniel Weller, a trailblazer in the Weller family. Serving as an exciting expansion of the original wheated bourbon brand, it exemplifies Buffalo Trace Distillery's commitment to innovation while paying homage to an American whiskey pioneer – Daniel Weller, the grandfather of William Larue Weller. Daniel passed down the family distilling traditions that paved the way for generations of whiskey enthusiasts.
The debut release features Emmer wheat, an ancient Egyptian grain seldom encountered in contemporary stills. Aged for nearly 12 years and bottled at 94 proof, the aroma is fresh and nutty, revealing hints of orange zest, hazelnut, cinnamon, and caramel. The palate offers a harmonious fusion of robust oak, sweet honey, and orchard fruits, leading to a multifaceted oak-centric finish enriched with nuances of baking spice and leather.
