The journey began in the spring of 1974 when a batch of bourbon was salvaged from a small distillery near Scharfferstown, Pennsylvania, following its closure. Some were promptly sold, while the rest continued aging in Kentucky. Fifteen years later, Adolph Hirsch, a former director of Schenley Distillers, discovered the batch. Recognizing its quality, now aged for 15 years, he acquired all 400 barrels—resulting in just 4,244 cases—and bestowed it with his own name. A.H.
